Age groups for kids classes
The minimum age depends on the maturity level of the individual child. Generally, however, the kids classes have students ranging in age from 5 - 12. Exceptions are sometimes made following your introduction to the instructor.
We will also be offering a special class for older kids aged 11-15
Depending on maturity level and size, older teens may join either the Adult classes or the Older Kids class, at the instructor's discretion.
Each student is placed in a class that is best for her/him.
Belt ranks for kids

After the age of 16, the child is eligible for the consecutive adult belts as illustrated:
Achievement
Belt rankings are a function of hours training, and proficiency of required techniques. Some students naturally progress faster than others, but belt achievement should be at a comfortable pace for each student. Each belt is marked with stripes that each signify a new milestone. Each belt must earn four stripes before the belt color is changed. Children under the age of 16 cannot earn a black belt according to the rules of the association.
Conduct
Children learn the rules of the mat, which include respect for the safety of their peers, respect for the instructor, bowing in and out, and not interrupting the classes. All classes are conducted in a white "gi," the traditional kimono uniform that has its origins in Japan.
